My name is Ingrid Fernandez; I am a graduate student of history at Florida 
Gulf Coast University. I am in an early stage of writing my thesis for my 
master degree. I am interested in writing about the Galapagos Islands. I 
have been thinking on the whaling industry that took place in the coasts of 
the archipelago and also about how the island was a used as a penitentiary 
by the Ecuadorian government as an effort to keep the island as national 
possession. I would like to read letters, diaries, and articles about the 
whalers and about their actions. I am also interested in reading letters and 
diaries of the people who were in the jail or from the people who lived in 
the Galapagos during that time. For that reason, I would like to get 
recommendations of which libraries have 
the most useful archival for these topics and if there are particular 
collections on these topics. I also would like to know which governmental 
institutions may have some of the official records related to the topics. 
Please let me know if you know of other kinds of primary sources that may be 
useful. Any help you could provide me with this issue would be most 
gratefully appreciated.

Mi nombre es Ingrid Fernández. Yo soy una estudiante de Florida Gulf Coast 
University que está haciendo una maestría en historia. En este monumento 
estoy comenzando hacer la investigación para la tesis. Me gustaría escribir 
acerca de la historia de las Islas Galápagos. Me interesa particularmente la 
industria ballenera que ocurrió en las costas del archipiélago y cuando se 
construyo una cárcel en una de las isla para que así las Galápagos sean 
parte del territorio activo del Ecuador. Por esta razón, estoy interesada en 
leer cartas, diarios y artículos de noticia de los balleneros o acerca de 
sus acciones en las Galápagos. Acerca de la cárcel, me gustaría saber si hay 
récores oficiales o si hay diarios o cartas de los reclusos y de los 
ciudadanos de la isla.  Por esa razón, me gustaría que me recomendaran que 
bibliotecas tienen los archivos más útiles acerca de estos temas y si hay 
colecciones particulares acerca de estos temas. También me gustaría saber si 
alguna de las agencias gubernamentales quizá tenga los récords orifícales 
acerca de estos tópicos. Por favor déjenme saber si alguno de Ustedes sabe 
de otros tipos de fuentes primarias. Cualquier tipo de ayuda  acerca de 
estos temas será muy agradecida.
