In June of 2010, Indigenous Peoples and Nationalities are gathering in
Quito, Ecuador, on the twentieth anniversary of a similar encounter that
represented a dramatic step forward in continental Indigenous organizing
strategies (see http://www.encuentroaguilacondorquito.org/). In order to
raise funds for this important meeting, we are offering for sale copies
of four books from Donna Lee Van Cott, a leading scholar of Indigenous
rights movements. The books cost $5 for paperbacks, and $10 for
hardcovers. Naturally, any additional donations to bring Indigenous
peoples to the encounter are warmly welcomed, and are fully tax
deductible. Please send any funds to:
Seventh Generation Fund for Indian Development
PO Box 4569
Arcata, California 95518 USA
Please email Marc Becker at marc at yachana.org noting your donation and
requesting which book(s) you would like to receive. The four books are:
Donna Lee Van Cott, ed., Indigenous Peoples and Democracy in Latin
America (New York: St. Martin's Press in association with the
Inter-American Dialogue, 1994). (hardcover only)
Donna Lee Van Cott, Defiant Again: Indigenous peoples and Latin American
security (Washington, DC: Institute for National Strategic Studies,
National Defense University, 1996). (paperback only)
Donna Lee Van Cott, The Friendly Liquidation of the Past: The Politics
of Diversity in Latin America (Pittsburgh: University of Pittsburgh
Press, 2000). (hardcover and paperback)
Donna Lee Van Cott, From Movements to Parties in Latin America: The
Evolution of Ethnic Politics (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press,
2005). (hardcover and paperback)
Please feel free to forward this email to other interested people. Thank
you in advance for your support for Indigenous organizing efforts in the
Americas.
