Applications are now being accepted for internships with latinamericacurrentevents.com /. These positions are ideally suited for energetic and motivated undergraduate/graduate students who have an intense interest in Latin America. Interns will be schooled in open source monitoring/analysis in Spanish/Portuguese.

•MISSION STATEMENT: LATINAMERICACURRENTEVENTS.COM  is dedicated to being a comprehensive news/current events reporting entity/database which covers a broad spectrum of topics focused on Latin America.
•OUR RESPONSIBILITIES: LATINAMERICACURRENTEVENTS.COM is charged with monitoring and exploiting news/current events from open sources. News is presented in both abstract and analysis format. All work is performed by proven and developing research and analysis methods by human editors. Information is chosen entirely from open sources that include but not limited to: newspapers, magazines, journals, radio, television, Twitter, social networks, and public databases. Abstracts and or analysis are prepared and inserted into the database for public consumption. 
•LATINAMERICACURRENTEVENTS.COM is now accepting applications for a select number of non-paid internships for open source intelligence and foreign media monitor positions.
•LATINAMERICACURRENTEVENTS.COM will assist and accommodate accredited educational institutions with internship programs for students to obtain academic credit for their work. 


      REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNSHIP CONSIDERATION
•Candidates must possess an intense interest in Latin America and a willingness to challenge themselves in learning open source intelligence/foreign media monitoring skills and analysis.
•Intermediate or higher Spanish or Portuguese speaking/reading/writing ability. Native speakers of Spanish or Portuguese are encouraged to apply. Oral and written exam will be given in Spanish and or Portuguese.
•Must be willing to commit to a minimum 3-4 month internship (longer is encouraged. 20 hours are required weekly(Some interns have opted for 40 hours a week during the summer). Work and instruction will be via remote service and some overnight work may be assigned. In rare circumstances some interns may be permitted to work a minimum of ten hours a week.
•Must be detailed oriented and be able to translate from Spanish/Portuguese to English in writing short succinct abstracts of news stories from a variety of sources including television and radio. Some interns will be required to call sources in Latin America for input as to reporting stories. Some interns may be required to conduct recorded telephone interviews with experts in the field of Latin America.
•Interns will be required to learn Wordpress content management database as well as Google Documents. Furthermore, interns will be required to use Latinamericacurrentevents.com database in compiling research terms in Spanish and or Portuguese.
•Those who have lived, worked, or studied in Latin America will be given priority consideration in the selection process.
•Min. undergraduate GPA 3.2 / Will be required to provide writing sample in English and Spanish or Portuguese. Writing skills must be above average.
•Interns will be given specific areas to be monitored and will have significant supervision and direction. However, there will be times when interns are directed to cover a variety of areas or subjects depending on current situations in Latin America. 
•The project is interested in interns from a broad academic background from but not limited to the following areas: Anthropology, social sciences, Latin American Studies, security studies, geography, international business, international relations, criminal justice, political science, linguistics, translation, engineering, communication, or related field.
•Interns must have good judgement and maturity. This assignment is challenging and will expand  your research, analytical, language, subject knowledge, and writing skills dramatically.
•Must take direction in performing the mission of this news reporting agency.
