Saludos Ecuatorianistas,

Se acerca el Congreso de LASA 2017 en Lima, Perú, el 29 de abril al 1 de mayo. Ya que se celebrará en un país vecino a Ecuador, espero ver muchos de ustedes allá.

Estoy adjuntando aquí una lista de todas las presentaciones y sesiones que tienen títulos relacionados con estudios ecuatorianos. Como ven, ¡podríamos llenar todo nuestro calendario de presentaciones sobre Ecuador! Realmente asombra la cantidad y calidad de trabajo tratando temas importantes al Ecuador: economía, política, cultura. Si no ves tu ponencia o sesión en esta lista y se trata de Ecuador, por favor avísame y la puedo agregar.

Les quiero recordar sobre tres eventos de especial interés:

  *   Nuestra reunión “business meeting” el sábado 29 de abril a las 20h00—es importante que asistan a la reunión, porque en los últimos años casi se muere la sección de estudios ecuatorianos por la falta de participación de los miembros. En esta fase de re-establecimiento de la sección, te necesitamos para construir algo más grande, más inclusivo, y más influyente. Hay muchas formas de colaborar con la sección, y la reunión es donde puedes averiguar más. También se presentará el Premio Dolores Cacuango al Mejor Ensayo sobre Estudios Ecuatorianos. ¡Manos a la obra!

  *   Nuestra recepción el domingo 30 de abril a las 20h15—poco antes del Gran Baile en el Hotel Westin. Una linda oportunidad de conocer a otros ecuatorianistas y conversar de manera informal con bocaditos y copitas de vino y Pisco Sour. ¡A brindar por los estudios ecuatorianos!

  *   Nuestra sesión auspiciada por la sección: Panel #965 el lunes 1 de mayo a las 12h00 “Knowing through Indigenous Verbal Art: Production, transmission and transformation of local knowledges”
Si no puedes acompañarnos en Lima, todavía habrá muchas oportunidades de involucrarte en la sección en el futuro cercano.

Greetings Ecuadorianists,

The 2017 LASA Congress in Lima, Peru is coming up from April 29 to May 1. Since it will take place in Ecuador’s neighbor country, I hope to see many of you there.

I’m attaching to this message a list of all the presentations and sessions with titles relating to Ecuadorian studies. As you can see, we could fill our whole schedule with presentations about Ecuador! The quantity and quality of work addressing themes important to Ecuador—economy, politics, culture—is really amazing. If you don’t see your presentation or session on this list and it is about Ecuador, please let me know and I will add it.

I want to remind you about three events of special interest:

  *   Our business meeting on Saturday, April 29 at 8:00 pm—it is important that you all attend the meeting, because in recent years the section has almost died because of a lack of participation among members. In this phase of re-establishing the section, we need you to help build something bigger, more inclusive, and more influential. There are many ways of getting involved in the section, and the meeting is where you can find out more. We will also present the Dolores Cacuango Prize for Best Essay in Ecuadorian Studies. Let’s get to work!

  *   Our reception on Sunday, April 30 at 8:15 pm—a little before the Gran Baile in the Westin Lima Hotel. A wonderful opportunity to meet and greet other Ecuadorianists and chat informally with snacks and glasses of wine or Pisco Sour. A toast to Ecuadorian Studies!

  *   Our section-sponsored session: Panel #965 on Monday, May 1 at 12:00 pm “Knowing through Indigenous Verbal Art: Production, transmission and transformation of local knowledges”
If you can’t join us in Lima, there will still be many opportunities to get involved in the section in the near future.
