Les quiero recordar que la fecha para enviar solicitudes para las becas de
viaje se aproxima. Se recibirán becas hasta el *jueves, 21 de febrero*. Por
favor, envíen sus solicitudes solamente a los miembros del comité, cuyos
nombres aparecen en la convocatoria.

Ecuadorian Studies Section (LASA)

Travel Grant Guidelines and Procedures (2018-2019)

The Ecuadorian Studies section of LASA invites its members to apply for
travel grants for LASA 2018 in Boston. The purpose of these grants is to
help convene a vibrant and diverse community of ecuatorianistas in Boston
by helping reduce the financial barriers presented by international travel.
The committee expects to award between 3-4 grants of $200-400 each.
Notification of awards will be delivered by Tuesday, March 12, 2019.

Prize Committee for 2018-2019:

The following members will comprise the committee for 2018: Liisa North
(York University), Carolina Bown (Salisbury University), Lizardo Herrera
 (Whittier College), and Vanessa Leon (Florida International
University/ESPOL)

Requirements and Selection Criteria:


   -

   Only members of the Ecuadorian Studies Section who are up-to-date on
   their section fees are eligible to apply for this travel grant.
   -

   Each member must submit an individual travel grant application. In the
   case of co-authors or co-presentations, each author must submit a separate
   application.
   -

   The application should consist of:

(1) A brief letter in either Spanish or English of no more than 300 words.
This letter should address:

   1.

   The applicant’s status (graduate student, untenured faculty, etc.) and
   academic or institutional affiliation.
   2.

   The applicant’s need for the travel grant, including whether they have
   been awarded a LASA travel grant to Boston. Applicants should also describe
   whether they have applied for or have access to any additional sources of
   funding (e.g. from their home institution) for travel.
   3.

   How the applicant’s presentation in Boston contributes to Ecuadorian
   Studies.

(2) In addition, the committee requires that each applicant submit a copy
of the abstract for the paper they will be presenting in Boston.

(3) Please provide a copy of the presentation acceptance letter that you
received from LASA.

   -

   The committee will select travel grant recipients on the basis of the
   documents submitted as part of the application. The committee will pay
   special attention to an applicant’s need for funding; at equal levels of
   proposal excellence and need, the committee will favor students and junior
   faculty; and it will show preference for papers whose content and focus are
   primarily on Ecuador (at least 75%) and that bring a high degree of
   originality to Ecuadorian Studies.

Deadline and Submission Information:

Only complete applications will receive full consideration. The email and
pertinent attachments (in pdf format) should be sent to all three committee
members: Liisa North (lnorth at yorku.ca),  Carolina Bown (CDBOWN at salisbury.edu),
Lizardo Herrera (lherrera at whittier.edu) and Vanessa Leon (vleon015 at fiu.edu).
The deadline for submissions is Thursday, February 21st,  2019.

Sección de Estudios Ecuatorianos (LASA)

Becas de Viaje-Instrucciones y Requisitos (2018-2019)

La sección de Estudios Ecuatorianos de LASA invita a sus miembros a enviar
una solicitud para ser considerados para una beca de viaje para el congreso
de LASA 2018 en Boston.. El propósito de estas becas es ayudar a congregar
una comunidad diversa y dinámica de ecuatorianistas en Boston al reducir
ciertos gastos que implica un viaje internacional de tal naturaleza. El
comité anticipa poder entregar entre 3 y 4 becas con un monto entre $200 y
$400. Los becarios recibirán notificaciones del premio el martes, 12 de
marzo del 2019.

Jurado-Año 2018-2019:

El jurado que determinará las becas estará integrado por: Liisa North (York
University), Carolina Bown (Salisbury University), Lizardo Herrera
 (Whittier College), and Vanessa Leon (Florida International
University/ESPOL)

Requisitos y criterios de selección:


   -

   Solamente serán considerados aquellos miembros que estén al día con sus
   membresías de la Sección de Estudios Ecuatorianos
   -

   Cada miembro deberá enviar una solicitud individual. En el caso de
   co-presentaciones o co-autoría, cada ponente o autor deberá enviar una
   solicitud por separado.
   -

   La solicitud deberá contener los siguientes materiales:

(1) Una carta breve escrita ya sea en castellano o en inglés de no más de
300 palabras. Esta carta deberá:

   1.

   especificar el estatus del postulante (estudiante de posgrado, profesor
   sin nombramiento o sin contrato permanente, etc.), además de su
   afiliación académica o profesional.
   2.

   indicar la necesidad del postulante de recibir una de estas becas de
   viaje, incluyendo si ya ha recibido una beca de viaje de LASA para el
   congreso en Boston. Los postulantes también deberán describir o aclarar si
   han solicitado a fondos de sus respectivas instituciones o si tienen
   acceso a otros fondos que ayuden a costear gastos del viaje.
   3.

   describir cómo la ponencia del postulante contribuye a los Estudios
   Ecuatorianos.

(2) Además, el jurado requiere que cada postulante envíe una copia de la
sumilla o resumen de la ponencia que se ofrecerá en Boston.

(3) También se le pide a cada postulante que envíe una copia de la carta de
aceptación al congreso en Boston que recibió de LASA.

   -

   El jurado seleccionará a los becarios en base a los documentos enviados
   como parte de la solicitud. El jurado le prestará particular atención al
   grado de necesidad de cada postulante. En casos en los cuales exista un
   nivel equilibrado entre excelencia y necesidad de cada solicitud, el
   jurado le dará prioridad a estudiantes y profesores que recién estén
   empezando sus carreras. Asimismo, el comité le dará preferencia a ponencias
   cuyo contenido y enfoque sea primordialmente sobre el Ecuador (por lo menos
   75%) y que ofrezca un alto grado de originalidad a los Estudios
   Ecuatorianos.

Plazo y dirección de envío:

Solamente aquellas solicitudes que estén completas recibirán la atención y
consideración del jurado. Los documentos que forman parte de la solicitud
deberán ser enviados (en formato pdf) a los tres miembros del jurado: Liisa
North (lnorth at yorku.ca),  Carolina Bown (CDBOWN at salisbury.edu), Lizardo
Herrera (lherrera at whittier.edu) y Vanessa Leon (vleon015 at fiu.edu).  La
fecha límite para enviar solicitudes será el jueves, 21 de febrero del 2019.
