Greetings,
I'd like to announce that my book on detention and deportation is now
available: *Detain and Deport: The Chaotic U.S. Immigration Enforcement
Regime *(University of Georgia Press, 2019), available in paperback or
hardback, on UGA Press
<https://ugapress.org/book/9780820354637/detain-and-deport/> site, or on
Amazon
<https://www.amazon.com/Detain-Deport-Immigration-Enforcement-Transformation/dp/0820354635>
*.* Based on research in Cuenca with deportees and family members of
Ecuadorians detained in the U.S., the book reframes detention and
deportation as policies that create new connections, blur state borders,
and fail to meet primary objectives. The book discusses:

   - history of Ecuador-U.S. migration
   - how U.S. policies have contributed to migration patterns and
   development of smuggling operations
   - development of the U.S. detention and deportation system, and how it
   is organized and operated
   - the consequences of detention and deportation in Ecuador
   - the role of profit-making in detention expansion

A longer description is in the attached flyer. Thank you for your interest.

Sincerely,
Nancy Hiemstra
