General description
The Masters in Latin American Studies is a two year international graduate program that aims to train a new generation of specialist in the interdisciplinary field of Latin American Studies. As such, the program targets both students that have recently completed their bachelor degrees on the social sciences (i.e. political science, anthropology, sociology, history, economics), or on an interdisciplinary field (e.g. international development, international relations, Latin American studies), that want to do a graduate level formation on Latin American politics, society, culture, and rural development.
To obtain the M.A., the students should take five core courses on Latin American economy, international relations, history, social and political thought, and politics, as well as five specialization courses in one of three subfields: Agrarian Studies, Politics and Culture, and International Relations. In addition, the M.A. candidates are expected to write a dissertation dealing with an issue related to one of the three subfields. Time To complete the program on a full-time basis, the student should attend classes for nine months, and write his/her dissertation in three to twelve months.

Tuition fees Admissions
Masters US$ 8,200 Submission of application and documents: until June 30, 2010
Course begins: October 4, 2010
USAB welcomes students that have an international scholarship, and in some cases
(e.g. Fullbright Commission) offer additional reductions in the fees.
Alternatively, a student can choose between two part-time programs: a Diploma, by taken courses for six months and writing a major essay, or a Certificate, by taken courses for three months. Diploma Fees: US$ 4,600
Living in campus expenses
Residence: U.S.$ 240 per month
Food: U.S.$ 30 per month
Calculations based on the long-term rent of a single room, and three meals per day in the Residence’s cafeteria.
