color:black">Our LASA/Ecuatorianista listserv’s exchange of information about the detention of Manuela Picq
has been salutary to the extent that it draws more scholarly attention to Ecuadorian practices of policing, arrest, detention, and the emerging penal state. <span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>As it happens, I am editing a special issue of the journal
Ecuador Debate (edition: August 2016) dedicated to the topic of imprisonment and criminal (in)justice across Latin America. <span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>My goal for this special issue is to spur new public dialogue about the changing state of

penal. Estoy ahora mismo editando un volumen especial para la revista Ecuador Debate (edición: Agosto 2016) dedicado al tema de mundos carcelarios y la (in)justicia criminal en Latinoámerica. Mi objetivo para este volumen es de impulsar más diálogo<span style="mso-spacerun:yes">

<p class="MsoNormal">Creo que sería de gran interés para los lectores e investigadores ecuatorianos incluir nuevos estudios sobre: COIP, la transición de la penalidad neoliberal a la penalidad neo-socialista, la criminalización de las protestas populares, el
encarcelamiento de líderes indígenas, las relaciones entre la Guerra internacional de las drogas y las condiciones de hacinamiento carcelario local, el aumento de las prácticas de encarcelamiento “(super)máxima seguridad” en las prisiones modelo, y los problemas
éticos de aislamento, entre otros temas.<o:p></o:p></p>
