Colleagues:

The Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar Ecuador and the Corporación Editora 
Nacional recently published our /Bibliografía de bibliografías 
ecuatorianas, 1885-2010/ (Quito, 2013). My coauthor is Miguel Díaz 
Cueva, still going strong at 94. This book offers the most complete 
history of bibliography in and on Ecuador yet undertaken by anyone and 
describes and annotates 400 bibliographies in the humanities, social 
sciences, and natural sciences. Unfortunately, I do not have any extra 
copies, but you may acquire this work through the Universidad Andina 
Simón Bolívar Ecuador or CEN. It is also for sale at Libri Mundi.

And the Biblioteca Municipal de Guayaquil published my /Recuentos de dos 
ciudades: Guayaquil en 1899 y Quito en 1906: un estudio comparativo/ 
(2012), an in depth analysis and interpretation of the 1899 census of 
the port city and the 1906 census of the capital. Unfortunately, I was 
not given the opportunity to proof read this work, and it is difficult 
to obtain outside of Guayaquil. Given the problematics of publishing 
scholarly works in the port city (e.g., the lack of adequate funding for 
the Archivo Histórico del Guayas, which should have been the publisher 
of this book), I am grateful that /Recuentos de dos ciudades/ came out 
at all.

The good news is that I have about thirty copies of /Recuentos de dos 
ciudades/ that I am willing to exchange for any of your recent books on 
Ecuador, provided I do not already hold a copy.

ecuatorianas, 1885-2010/ (Quito, 2013). Mi co-autor es el Dr. Miguel 
Díaz Cueva, todavía activo a pesar de sus 94 años. Este libro ofrece la 
historia mas completa de bibliografía en y sobre el Ecuador existente y 
describe y analiza 400 bibliografías en las humanidades, ciencias 
sociales, y ciencias naturales. Desafortunadamente, no dispongo de 
ejemplares extras, empero se puede adquirir esta obra a través de la 
Universidad Andina o CEN. También esta en venta en Libri Mundi.

Y la Biblioteca Municipal de Guayaquil ha editado mi /Recuentos de dos 
ciudades: Guayaquil en 1899 y Quito en 1906: un estudio comparativo/ 
(2012), un análisis detallado e interpretación de los censos de 
población de 1899 de la ciudad-puerto y de 1906 de la capital. Por 
desdicha y desgracia, no me dieron la oportunidad de corregir las 
pruebas de esta obra y es difícil de conseguir. Dado cuan problemático 
es publicar obras académicas en Guayaquil hoy en día (v.g., the falta de 
financiación adecuada del Archivo Histórico del Guayas, el cual debía 
haber publicado este libro), estoy agradecido que al fin y cabo salió.

Felizmente dispongo de unos treinta ejemplares de /Recuentos de dos 
ciudades/, que estoy dispuesto canjear para cualquiera de sus libros 
reciente sobre el Ecuador, siempre y cuando no consta en mi colección de 
ecuatoriana.
