[Lasa] Premios, Elecciones y LASA 2018

Hola Ecuatorianistas,

Este mensaje tiene información sobre: 1) los premios de la Sección, 2) las elecciones electrónicas, 3) las sesiones con relevancia a estudios ecuatorianos en el Congreso de LASA 2018, 4) la recepción de la sección durante el Congreso, y 5) la reunión de negocios de la Sección durante el Congreso.

1)    La ganadora de nuestro primer Premio Nuevas Direcciones en Los Estudios Ecuatorianos, para el mejor ensayo en estudios ecuatorianos escrito por estudiante de posgrado, es:

Ana María Cerón Cáceres (FLACSO Ecuador, Maestría en Antropología) por su excelente trabajo titulado “Geografías de la Cocaína: Trayectos de Mujeres Colombianas Encarceladas por Drogas en Ecuador”. El premio incluye un año de membresía en LASA y en la Sección de Estudios Ecuatorianos, y USD$200. El premio se le otorgará oficialmente en nuestra reunión de negocios en el Congreso de Barcelona. ¡Felicitaciones!

También hay dos menciones de honor, quienes recibirán comentarios y feedback sobre su trabajo del comité. Las menciones de honor son:

Liliam Fiallo Monedero (Univ. Andina Simón Bolívar, Ph.D. en Derecho) por su trabajo “Pluralismo Jurídico y Derechos Humanos de las Mujeres Indígenas en Ecuador: Una Difícil Evaluación en el Campo de las Ciencias Sociales”

Mónica Rivera Muñoz (Universidad de Leuven, Ph.D. en Arquitectura) por su trabajo “The Slow Construction of the Vernacular Landscape: Water + Practices of Reciprocity in San Joaquin, Cuenca”

El comité de premios fue liderado por Taylor Nelms y Jean Rahier con la participación de Javier González Díez, María Elena Rivera Heredia, y María Fernanda Acosta. Muchas gracias a los miembros del comité por su colaboración, y felicitaciones a Ana María, Liliam, y Mónica.

Becas de viaje:

Este año 5 miembros de la Sección recibieron becas de viaje de USD$200 a USD$600. Felicitaciones a estas personas por su excelente trabajo: nos vemos en Barcelona!

2)    Dentro de pocos días van a recibir un mensaje con un enlace para realizar la votación electrónica para las elecciones de la Sección de Estudios Ecuatorianos. Todavía puedes participar como candidato/a, pero tienes que avisarme hoy. Los puestos que hay que llenar son: presidente, secretario/tesorero, y dos vocales del consejo ejecutivo. Habrá poco tiempo para realizar la elección, así que por favor, tomen dos minutos para votar cuando les llegue el mensaje, porque es importante tener la máxima participación.

3)    Adjunto a este mensaje encontrarán un listado de todas las ponencias y sesiones que parecen tener relevancia a Estudios Ecuatorianos en LASA 2018—y hay muchas! Están en orden cronológico, y los paneles subrayados tienen más de una ponencia sobre Ecuador o temas ecuatorianos. Espero verlos a todos ustedes en las dos sesiones auspiciadas por la sección: una mesa redonda sobre el legado de Correa, y un panel sobre la migración. No sabemos todavía dónde se va a hacer cada sesión, pero cuando salga el programa final podrán buscar esos datos.

5)    Reunión de negocios en LASA 2018: Por favor, pongan esto en sus calendarios si van a estar en el Congreso. En la reunión otorgamos los premios, hacemos planes para las sesiones en LASA 2019, y empezamos a armar los comités de la Sección. No sabemos todavía el lugar exacto, pero sabemos que la reunión se hará el miércoles 23 de mayo a las 17h45 (5:45 pm).

This message has information about 1) Section prizes, 2) electronic elections, 3) sessions relevant to Ecuadorian Studies in the LASA 2018 Congress, 4) the section reception during the Congress, and 5) the business meeting during the Congress.

1)    The winner of our first-ever New Directions in Ecuadorian Studies Prize, for the best essay/article in Ecuadorian Studies by a graduate student, is:

2)    In just a few days you will receive a message with a link to vote electronically in the elections of the Ecuadorian Studies Section. You can still participate as a candidate, but you need to tell me today. The positions we need to fill are: president, secretary/treasurer, and two council members. There won’t be much time to do the election, so please, take two minutes to vote when you receive the message, because it is important to have the most participation possible.

3)    Attached to this message you will find a listing of all the presentations and sessions at LASA 2018 that seem to have relevance for Ecuadorian Studies—and there are many! They are in chronological order, and the bolded panels have more than one presentation about Ecuador or Ecuadorian topics. I hope to see you all at the two sessions sponsored by the section: a roundtable on the Correa legacy, and a panel on migration. We don’t yet know the locations of each session, but when the final program comes out you will be able to find those details.

5)    Business meeting at LASA 2018: Please put this on your calendars if you will be at the Congress. At the meeting we hand out prizes, make plans for our sessions for LASA 2019, and begin to form the section’s committees. We don’t yet know the exact location, but we know that the meeting will be on Wednesday, May 23 at 5:45 pm.
