Below are the guidelines for submission of reviews. These are also 
posted at https://www.ecuatorianistas.org/publicaciones/reviews/


Colleagues:

It is becoming increasingly difficult to stay abreast of new and recent 
publications on Ecuador. It is also difficult to know which books we 
should acquire for our own research, utilize for teaching, and/or 
recommend for purchase by our institutional libraries, not just because 
bookstores are rapidly becoming artifacts of the past but also because 
not all new and recent books are reviewed or not reviewed until several 
or more years have passed since their publication.

Therefore we are encouraging our membership to submit reviews of new and 
recent books on Ecuador or related to Ecuador in English or Spanish, in 
Word or WordPerfect to Michael T. Hamerly, 
michael.hamerly at fulbrightmail.org. Negative as well as positive reviews 
are welcome, but not attacks ad hominem. Reviews may be brief or 
lengthy, but if short, provide the gist of the work and an assessment of 
its importance.

Reviews will be edited for grammar and spelling and to make sure that 
they are intelligible to one and all regardless of our respective 
disciplines. The not always mutually intelligible argot of our 
respective disciplines should be avoided. Imagine you are addressing a 
class of interested intelligent upperclass students in the Sciences who 
are taking a mandatory course in the Humanities or the Social Sciences 
to comply with a graduation requirement. If necessary, the author of the 
review will be given the opportunity to clarify his/her prose.

In the case of references to articles or contributions to anthologies, 
full citations should be provided. That is to say, the issue number and 
pagination must be specified in the case of articles, not just the 
journal title and year of publication, and in the case of contributions 
to anthologies, pagination as well as the other bibliographical details 
of the anthology.

Once edited, the reviews will be forwarded to Marc Becker, our 
Webmaster, for posting under the Publications subsection of Reviews.

Unfortunately, we are not in a position to provide review copies. 
Therefore, we are asking everyone to review one another’s work as a 
labor of love, without any recompense other than the gratitude of your 
colleagues and fellow Ecuatorianists.

We would also like to add links of appropriate reviews in professional 
journals. Please submit these directly to Marc Becker at marc at yachana.org.

Se ha tornando difícil mantenerse al tanto de las publicaciones nuevas y 
recientes sobre Ecuador. Es especialmente difícil darnos cuenta de que 
libros debemos comprar para nosotros mismos, utilizar para la aula, o 
recomendar a nuestras bibliotecas académicas adquirir, no solamente 
porque las librerías están a punto de convertirse en artefactos del 
pasado, sino porque no se publican reseñas de todos los libros nuevos y 
recientes y porque suelan pasar algunos años hasta que reseñas de los 
seleccionados para reseñas aparecen.

Por estas razones rogamos y pedimos a nuestros miembros someter reseñas 
de libros nuevos o recientes sobre Ecuador o relacionados con Ecuador en 
español o ingles en Word o WordPerfect a Michael T. Hamerly, 
michael.hamerly at fulbrightmail.org. Se aceptarán tanto reseñas negativas 
como positivas, empero no ataques ad hominem, Las reseñas pueden ser 
cortas o extendidas, empero en el caso de reseñas breves, deben 
enfatizar lo esencial de la obra y evalorar su importancia.

Se revisarán las reseñas por gramática y ortografía y sobre todo para 
asegurar que tienen sentido. Se debe evitar el argot puesto que los 
dialectos académicos no son siempre mutualmente entendibles. Imaginese 
que está hablando a una clase de estudiantes de tercer y cuarto año de 
una facultad de ciencias que están cursando una clase en las humanidades 
o ciencias sociales para satisfacer uno de los requisitos para 
licenciarse. En caso de necesidad, se pedirá al autor de la reseña 
clarificar su prosa.

En el caso de referencias a monografías o contribuciones antologías, se 
deben proveer citas completas. Es decir, especificar el número de la 
entrega y la paginación en el caso de artículos, no solamente el título 
de la revista y el año de su publicación, y en el caso de contribuciones 
a antologías, la paginación además de los otros detalles bibliográficos 
de la antología.

Una vez editadas, las reseñas serán remitidas a Marc Becker, nuestro 
Webmaster, para inclusión en la nueva subsección de reseñas de la 
sección de Publicaciones.

Desafortunadamente no estamos en condiciones de proveer ejemplares para 
reseñas. Entonces, estamos pedidiendo a todos reseñar los libros de sus 
colegas como una labor de amor sin recompensa alguna aparte del 
agradecimiento de sus colegas y los ecuatorianistas en general.

También nos parece ideal agregar enlaces de reseñas de publicaciones 
apropiadas que aparecen en las revistas profesionales. For favor
